GUN PERMITS
To obtain a gun permit in Indiana, you must meet the following criteria:
- You must be 18 years of age.
- You must be a resident of Indiana.
The initial application must be completed on-line at ISP: Firearms Application Process
Please read the directions completely and remember to save your application number.
You will need to print the confirmation page and bring your fingerprinting confirmation card to our office when finalizing your application.
Remember to visit www.in.gov/inkless for fingerprinting.
THE FRANKLIN COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE DOES NOT PROVIDE INKLESS FINGERPRINTING
After completing the above application process, bring your ID & proof of fingerprinting to the Franklin County Security Center for processing. Your application will be reviewed by the Sheriff, and if your background check is clear, the Sheriff will recommend the application for approval via the website and submit to Indiana State Police Firearms Division. If approved, you should receive your gun permit via mail within approximately 60 days after the FINAL approval.
Permit Options
There are two main options for handgun carry permits:
- five-year license
- lifetime license
The Personal Protection Permit will cover hunting also, however, if you only apply for a Hunting Permit, you will not be permitted to carry your weapon off of your own property.
